VEILED VIGILANCE: YASMEEN’S SHADOW SONATA

A LEVANTINE ODYSSEY

The project follows my character Yasmeen who is an anonymous activist artist from Damascus, Syria, presenting a shadow-based art performance in a London courtyard. Yasmeen’s anonymity becomes a powerful tool for silent activism, conveying the nuanced emotions and socio-political impact of the Syrian and the Levant issues. The project seeks to blend Damascene courtyard aesthetics with Western influences, creating a cultural bridge. Engaging local communities, the performance encourages dialogue on global issues.

Year Two

INGLORIOUS HAVEN

In this project I designed a community space inspired by the

secret society ‘Order of Chaeronea’ - an LGBTQ+ society. It

became to be a space where only carefully selected people can

access, to spend a full day safely in their haven. The reason behind the secrecy in the project is because even though we are in an age where people get to express themselves, some people are still worried how that would affect their personal life, which is why they still choose to keep it a hidden fact.

NURIMONO WORKSHOP

Foundation Course: Art and Design

For this project, I transformed a room by covering it entirely with newspaper, placing insulation in the center of the space. The light from the insulation cast shadows on the newspaper, symbolizing the potential for change in the world. This installation was a commen- tary on the impact of our actions and how we can influence global events.
